Get Whizra

Troubleshooting

The shortcut does nothing, files aren’t found, a window isn’t found, a job stops: what to check in Whizra, one problem at a time.

  • Double-tapping Option does nothing. Whizra needs Accessibility: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility, switch Whizra on. Until then, open the bar from the menu-bar mark → Open Bar. The shortcut is a double-tap of the Right Option key.
  • It's on in Accessibility but the shortcut still doesn't work (after an update). Remove Whizra from the Accessibility list with −, then add it again.
  • Files in Documents or Desktop aren't found. macOS asks once whether Whizra may use those folders; click Allow. To change it later: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Files and Folders.
  • Files elsewhere on the Mac aren't found. Finding covers your home folder. For the whole Mac, give Whizra Full Disk Access (optional), from Settings → Finding files.
  • The first scan or photo read takes a while. The first text reading after installing can take about half a minute while macOS gets ready ("Getting ready the first time…"); after that it's quick.
  • "Jobs need a license key." Enter your key from the menu or Settings. Being offline never locks you out once a key is in.
  • A window isn't found. Whizra only sees windows in the current Space; switch to that Space first.
  • "Can't do that yet." That job isn't one Whizra knows. Tell the maker opens your own mail app with only your sentence.
  • Compress kept nothing. If the result isn't at least 5% smaller, Whizra says so and keeps nothing.
  • A job on a locked PDF stops. Unlock it first: "unlock it with password …".
  • An old .ppt or .xls file isn't converted. Save it as .pptx or .xlsx first. Keynote files need Keynote installed.
  • A zip over 4 GB is refused. Zips are limited to 4 GB for now.
  • A WebP can't be made. Whizra reads WebP but can't write it.
  • The Shortcuts actions are missing. Make sure only one copy of Whizra is on the Mac (in Applications), then open it once.
  • A job seems stuck. Press Stop (or Esc) on the job in the bar. In a batch, Stop also removes the files that batch already made; your own files are never changed. Then run it again.
  • A job fails when the disk is nearly full. Whizra shows the message macOS gives (there's no special one). Free some space and run it again; jobs like removing a background need room to work.
  • Where things are in the menu. Click the menu-bar mark: Open Bar, History… (⌘Y), Welcome & Sample…, Enter License Key… (License… once a key is in), Settings… (⌘,), Quit (⌘Q). While a job runs, the top of the menu says what's working, with Show in the Bar.
